Happily Ever . . .

Is this you??? . . .

Finding the perfect wedding gown & then being in sticker shock by the prices of bridal boutique accessories?

As a wedding planner, I completely side with the fact that the picture perfect gown of your dreams will  inevitably cost a thousand or thousands. BUT, you shouldn’t be breaking the bank to accessorize.

Where oh where will you ever find affordable, reliable, fashion forward accessories for your wedding?! Happily Ever Borrowed that is! Similar to the, ever so popular, “Rent the Runway” vibe except this one’s for the brides!

Discover some cool, funny and interesting facts from the interview that Michelle Elaine Weddings owner, Michelle Fernie, had with Happily Ever Borrowed owner Brittany Haas . . .

MEW: How did you come up with the name & concept of your company/brand?

HEB: I have three older sisters, and from the age of 12, I was helping to plan their weddings. When I was in college and designing bridal gowns, my one sister asked me to make hers. That was far too much pressure for me, but I offered to help shop with her. When I saw the poor quality and construction of the cheaper gowns, I was horrified. All women deserve to wear quality products on their wedding day. We were also astonished at the high prices of veils, headpieces and jewelry. After spending their entire budget on their dress, most women forget that they need to accessorize as well! This is one of the most common instances where brides exceed their budget. My sisters begged me to find a solution. I let the idea sit for quite a while, but after my 3rd sister got married, the idea started to materialize.

MEW: What was it that kick started this idea to blossom?

HEB: To be honest? I was completely BORED at work.  I had extra time on my hands, I thought of my sisters’ prior wedding problems and I wanted to address the solution.  It was a time in NYC where start-ups were popping up left and right and I just jumped into the game!

MEW: What is your favorite wedding day accessory if you could only choose one?

HEB: A big statement necklace. It’s so fun to throw on a huge statement piece and let that accessory speak for itself.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: What accessories do you find brides “borrow” the most? Why do you think this is so?

HEB: One of our most popular pieces is the Isabella Cuff by Enchanted Atelier. I was really surprised because I didn’t think a bracelet would be our best seller, but I think the piece is so gorgeous that when women see it, they have to have it!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: Tell the readers one thing that they would never guess about you.

HEB: I’m a HUGE Jay-Z fan. #rocnation

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: What fashion trends do you think influence the wedding industry the most and why?

HEB: I’m seeing a lot of texture and a lot of print come back into mode.  I think bridal designers will find a way to integrate this into bridal fashion very soon.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: What hair trends do you predict for top popularity in 2014?

HEB: I’m seeing a turn away from the rural/vintage/rustic theme and back towards elegant affairs. For that reason I think we’ll see some more traditional up-do’s come back into play.

MEW: What hair accessories do you predict for top popularity in 2014? Will we finally do away with the birdcage veil?!

HEB: I think bling is coming back!  Large statement headpieces, tiaras, jewelry, you name it!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: What is your favorite time of year for weddings?

HEB: Summer. I’m traditional in that sense!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

MEW: Here’s a fun one, if I were planning your wedding, tell me one thing that you would sacrifice in your wedding budget for. In other words what would you be willing to cut and at what cost?

HEB: Well obviously the accessories – because I can rent them! 🙂 But also, the wedding favors. People either forget them, don’t take them or throw them away immediately.
